OUR STORY

The orchard at Sherman Valley Farm grew from John Blalock’s deep love for the land and his dream of creating something lasting and useful. In the early 1990s, he borrowed some money and purchased 10 acres of land just outside Spokane and began planting apple trees. With care and dedication, he transformed the property into a thriving orchard filled with over 500 trees.
For John, it wasn’t just about growing apples - it was about creating a place where people could slow down, connect with nature, and enjoy the simple pleasure of picking fruit straight from the tree. Over the years, Sherman Valley Farm became a beloved destination where the community could gather in autumn for U-pick apples, fresh cider, and quiet moments among the trees.
After John’s passing in 2025, Sherman Valley Farm continues as a living tribute to his legacy. His son Adam now tends the orchard and Legacy Builders Ministries is expanding Johns dream, welcoming visitors each season to share in its beauty and bounty.

John Blalock
John Blalock (1950–2025) was the heart and vision behind Sherman Valley Farm. He was a fiercely independent man (except when it came time to cook a meal) and a true warrior. He grew up in Richland, WA playing a multitude of sports and earned national recognition for his distance running abilities. When he turned 20, John was drafted into the US Army and served a tour in Vietnam.
Eventually, after roaming the country for several years, John moved to Spokane, bought some land, and began to fam it as was his dream .Unbeknown to him at the time, it would eventually become more than just a farm or an orchard - it became a place of peace, healing, and connection.

His legacy lives on in the beauty of the orchard and the joy it brings to all who visit.
